»Interreligious dialogue is a necessary condition for peace in the world,
and so it is a duty for Christians as well as other religious communities.«

Pope Francis

Our goal: to evaluate religious issues in an informed way

Religious conflicts are often the cause of political or even armed conflicts. Those who do not want to become victims of prejudice, ignorance or inflamed emotions need well-founded background knowledge. This also (and especially) concerns journalists. Assessing developments in complex political, cultural and also religious contexts is extremely difficult.

Anyone who wants to credibly explain, evaluate and make objective statements must know the facts. This is the focus of the KNA-PROMEDIA-Foundation: it arranges professional training for journalists who specialise in conveying religious knowledge.

This is about more than just theoretical knowledge of religious beliefs or of customs or historical-political influences on culture. Interreligious dialogue means active encounters and direct exchange – across world views.

Our focus is on dialogue and on learning from one another. To this end we establish contacts and offer opportunities for discussions and for conducting research.

Our programme covers discussions with recognised experts as well as meetings with religious and media representatives. This provides participants with first-hand information. In addition, all training sessions take place at “holy” locations, permitting encounters with people of faith and religious dignitaries alike. Our goal is to enable them to network and experience faith in a concrete way.

Our training courses are aimed at aspiring and already nationally and internationally active journalists, regardless of their religious affiliation.

Our approach: first-hand experience on the ground

We think pragmatically: how do reporters obtain solid facts? Our answer: through meetings and conversations. Journalists need the opportunity to exchange ideas with representatives of religious groups and state organisations, to establish contacts and to get to know the faithful in the communities.

To this end the KNA-PROMEDIA-Foundation facilitates research at “holy” locations which then serves as a basis for subsequent reporting. What locations could be more suitable for direct exchange than Rome and Jerusalem?

Our Foundation

The KNA-PROMEDIA-Foundation was founded in 1999, initially with the aim of promoting catholic journalism by arranging traineeships, internships, foreign visits and other educational opportunities.

Since 2019, the training courses are no longer aimed solely at German journalists, but also at international journalists of different faiths.
